Turnberry: The World's First Golf Resort
The beautifully renovated Deluxe Ocean View Rooms capture the true spirit of the original Turnberry Hotel built in 1906. White shutters and subtle colours give each room a soft, calming air in perfect keeping with Turnberry's majestic ocean setting. Huge picture windows flood the room with natural light and offer evocative views over slate seas, mystical islands and the Turnberry links golf courses, home to The British Open four times over.
Did You Know?
- The Turnberry Lighthouse marks a dangerous part of the Ayrshire coast, off which lies Bristo Rock which was responsible for many wrecks. It is situated close to the 9th hole of Turnberry Golf Courses in what was once the moat of Turnberry Castle, which disputes with Lochmaben the honour of being the birthplace of Robert Bruce (1274 -1329).
- Turnberry's Ailsa golf course hosted the world's most prestigious golf championship - The British Open - four times over, in 1977 - that famous Duel in the Sun - in 1986, 1994 and in 2009.
- Built in 1906 as the world's first golf resort, the Turnberry Hotel was built in a golden age, when the British Empire spanned the globe. The discerning guest could get on a sleeper train in London, and play golf at Turnberry the next morning. The world's first luxury golf resort was born, with Turnberry the perfect destination.
